Responsibilities

  1. - Carries out infrastructural detailed design for all UNRWA projects including rehousing, water tanks and pumping stations in accordance with Agency's needs, policies, design criteria, standards and applicable local and international codes of practice; ensures that infrastructures satisfy withstand calculated loads at optimal cost; maintains and applies existing standard details of infrastructural elements utilising relevant software and reviews drawings prepared by Technical Assistants/CAD.
  2. - Contributes to the tender documents preparation, including particular specifications to cover special infrastructural design needs; identifies non-standard items, to improve the quality of implemented works, and writes relevant description to be included in the Bill of Quantities (BoQs).
  3. - Searches and checks properties of materials ensuring their suitability for the design and fitness for purpose and safety; analyses suitable configurations of the basic infrastructural components of projects; checks and evaluates the geotechnical investigation reports and advises on contents and conclusions, related to infrastructure design; makes recommendation for improvement of relevant standards and procedures.
  4. - Assesses the current infrastructural system (water distribution, sewerage collection, stormwater) and water reservoirs, uses computer simulations to predict how such systems will react under different conditions, and provides technical advice including their maintenance; writes technical reports, particularly on their soundness and capacity, including remediation requirements.
  5. - Liaises with site/Field infrastructure teams (including Land surveying teams) as applicable, on relevant design issues arising during the implementation period; updates infrastructural designs drawings to incorporate changes included in the as-built drawings to reflect on ground conditions and evolvements; maintains these drawings based on the relevant Technical Instructions.
  6. - Coordinates and liaises with other designers, to optimise designs in response to infrastructural needs and maintaining infrastructural elements' soundness and integrity at minimal cost; takes into consideration mechanical and electrical design requirements with particular attention to site implementation conditions.
  7. - Assists in drafting terms of references for consultants related to infrastructural works and supervising their work to ensure adherence with design criteria, standards, and procedures; provide substantive input on various types of reports including weekly and monthly progress reports and ad-hoc reports.

Education

  • University degree from an accredited institution in Civil Engineering.

Work Experience

  • University degree from an accredited institution in Civil Engineering is required.
  • At least four years of relevant experience including at least two in planning and designing big infrastructure projects is required.

Conditions of service:
  • Type of Contract: Limited Duration Contract (LDC), Band E. The Limited Duration Contract applies to external candidates and UNRWA internal candidates on LDC.
  • 1 year - with the possibility of further extension, subject to the availability of funds, satisfactory performance and continuing need.
  • LDC- Band E monthly basic salary ranges US$ 1,713.80
