Background
The Department of Safety and Security is responsible for providing leadership, operational support and oversight of the security management system to enable the safest and most efficient conduct of the security programmes and activities of the United Nations System.
Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Senior Security Operations Associate (SSOA), the Security Operations Associate (SOA) assists in the implementation of security operations, provide professional client oriented security support service, monitor and actively support UN personnel movement, monitor all sources of information on security incidents and maintain and exercise the Security Communications Systems in the Joint Security Operations Coordination Center/ Gaza Security Coordination Center (JSOC/GSCO) in the Israel, Occupied Palestinian Territory and Jerusalem (IoPtJ). The SOA also perform the activities on the JSOC/GSCO and ensures operations are conducted efficiently and professionally. The contract duration for the position is 12 months and the Service Contract extension will be conditioned to satisfactory performance evaluation as well as availability of funding under the Local Cost-Shared Security Budget (LCSSB).
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide all UN and Saving Lives Together (SLT) organizations prompt, friendly and professional client oriented security support services (Client Orientation, Hospitality Services).
- Official movement is monitored in order to provide information about changes in the risk environment and to allow a rapid head count of all UN personnel and those included in SLT agreements.
- Monitor all sources of information including the media for reports of security incidents.
- Maintain a log of all verified security incidents.
- Maintain and exercise the Security Communications Systems.
- Perform any other tasks and duties as directed by the Supervisor.
Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Minimum of High School Diploma.
- Operations or Security Studies are required.
- BA Degree in Business Administration or related fields would be an asset.
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in Operations and security or related field.
- Fluency in English and Arabic are required.
- Hebrew would be considered an important asset.
- Knowledge of satellite phones and VHF radio operation is an asset.
- Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint) essential
- Possession of a valid driver’s license in Gaza
