Result of Service

In this role, the incumbent reports to the Protection and Neutrality Team Leader.

Responsibilities

  1. Supports management of all databases and information systems within the Protection & Neutrality Office, liaises with field and HQ IT/database staff as appropriate, and where relevant with external service providers – writes database documentation to including data standards, procedures and definitions, produces reports and analysis, and evaluates and proposes changes to existing databases.
  2. Monitors and controls P&N hardware and software resources, providing infrastructure support to IT systems, monitoring confidentiality and established standards for infrastructure support, data security and the physical security of materials, equipment, files, and other items within the Protection & Neutrality Office, monitors, reports and recommends hardware, software, and/or other telecommunications equipment capacity requirements.
  3. Liaises with appropriate ISO Field staff members in resolving any P&N network, telecommunications or e-mail system related problem.
  4. Assists in the design, layout and editing of information materials, including production of electronically published products, technical reports and forms.
  5. Supports the P&N staff in compiling data, producing statistics, analyzing trends and preparing reports as required, including all tasks related to the RBM system.
  6. Supports the Neutrality focal point and Protection Mainstreaming Officer specifically and P&N Office generally to report on protection and neutrality data, issues and meetings as required. Work includes providing technical support and backstopping to all data related aspects of neutrality work, supporting the organization of and reporting on neutrality meetings at GFO, training staff on the use of data collection and analysis tools, liaising with staff as needed.
  7. Performs other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor(s).

Qualifications/special skills

Academic Qualifications:

  • University degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related discipline.

Experience:

  • A minimum of three years working experience of technical information system and/or information management.
  • Experience and knowledge of Local Area Networks.
  • Experience in advising, assisting and supporting non-technical users of information systems.

Language:

  • Excellent command of spoken and written English and Arabic.

Special Notice

Contract Type & Duration:

Limited Duration Contract for 6 months; renewable; Appointment subject to funding confirmation.

Conditions of service:

The monthly basic salary shall be 1,448.30 US$ at Band E. An existing LDC member can apply to this LDC post but will not be allowed to assume such post through secondment as he/she needs to leave his/her current status to accept the new LDC appointment.

Desirable Qualifications:

Working knowledge in one or more of the following areas: LAN, UNIX/Linux based system, MS-SQL, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, Web publishing, image processing and publication design tools.
