Consultant – Senior SQL Server Developer, HQ Gaza (Local)

BACKGROUND

UNRWA Information Management and Technology Department (IMTD) is seeking a Senior SQL Server Developer to work with a team responsible for automating data transformation using SQL server, while the primary responsibility of this role will be to design the data acquisition, data staging, loading, and transformation of data through ETL processes, This is an opportunity to make a big impact and get lots of ownership. We are looking for someone who thrives in the very early stages of a project and is self-driven.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Put the database optimal data model in SQL Server;
  2. Analyze data requirements, complex source data, and the data model, and determine the best methods in extracting, transforming and loading the data into the data staging, warehouse and other system integration project;
  3. Create SSIS ETL packages including all available transformation components;
  4. Write complex SQL queries that load and make all needed transformations;
  5. Create web applications using ASP.Net and MS SQL Server; using .Net framework & VB.Net/C#;
  6. Performance tuning for slow running packages / stored procedures;
  7. Document all ETL and data warehouse processes and flows;
  8. Create or update technical documentation for transition to support teams;
  9. Develop automated data audit and validation processes;
  10. Develop and deploy ETL job workflow with reliable error/exception handling and rollback;
  11. Manage automation of file processing as well as all ETL processes within a job workflow;
  12. Develop, Contribute and adhere to the development of standards and sound procedural practices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  1. A university degree from an accredited educational institution in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline.
  2. Minimum 4 years of proven technical expertise in MS SQL.
  3. Previous experience as an ETL developer with strong data architecture knowledge around data warehousing concepts, SQL development and optimization, and operational support models.
  4. Experience with SQL Server databases as developer.
  5. Strong complex SQL knowledge; able to write and read as well as diagnose nonperforming complex SQL.
  6. Knowledge of indexing and explain plans.
  7. Good command of spoken and written English.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A clear and familiar understanding of the concepts and best practices of data warehouse ETL design;
  2. Demonstrated expertise around the Microsoft SQL Server technologies (primarily SSIS);
  3. Proven understanding of SQL optimization (indexing and ability to interpret and act on execution plans).

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

  • The duration of the consultancy is around 6 months, extendable according to performance and availability of funds.
  • Remuneration for this consultancy will be on grade 14 (1,490.30 USD) and will depend on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
  • The incumbent will be based in Gaza.
