UI/UX Designer-UNRWA

UNRWA is a United Nations agency established by the General Assembly in 1949 and is mandated to provide assistance and protection to a population of some 5 million registered Palestine refugees. Its mission is to help Palestine refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, West Bank and the Gaza Strip to achieve their full potential in human development, pending a just solution to their plight. UNRWA’s services encompass education, health care, relief and social services, camp infrastructure and improvement, microfinance and emergency assistance. UNRWA is the largest UN operation in the Middle East with more than 30,000 staff. UNRWA is funded almost entirely by voluntary contributions.

Consultant – UI/UX Designer, HQ Gaza


We are looking for someone who is an expert in UI design, UX design, and front-end development. The consultant will be working mainly on one major system and will be understanding human-computer interaction design (HCID), in coming up with elegant solutions to improve our application, and in developing on a modern .Net framework as well as a UX/UI framework for existing and future web applications.


  1. Conducting research and deconstructing users’ digital interactions and habits;
  2. Overseeing and executing user UI/UX designs;
  3. Analyzing and offering solutions for UI/UX key issues;
  4. Developing workflows and interaction flows;
  5. Analyzing and presenting field analysis, clients feedback and usability findings;
  6. Managing milestones, schedules and deadlines for UX related project;
  7. Come up with UI and UX strategies based on target goals;
  8. Creating and maintaining digital assets, such as interface design files, wireframes, and interactive mockups using design and prototyping tools: e.g., Adobe XD, Sketch and InVision;
  9. Designing, building and maintaining highly reusable and responsive JavaScript, HTML and CSS code;
  10. Understanding the limitations of the tech stack and business model and providing technical advice wherever necessary;
  11. Building and documenting standards, framework, and guidelines of best UX/UI practices for current and future web applications.

The following deliverables are requested:

  1. Setting of UI/UX problems/ issues in current UNRWA Applications;
  2. Rebuilding the current module in e-health in which issues/problems are found;
  3. The module is to adhere to best practices and industry standards in UI/UX development;
  4. Building reusable .Net Framework UI Library;
  5. Roadmap to upgrade the entire e-health system UI/UX;

Developing a full Framework documentation contains the following:

  1. UNRWA Applications UI/UX Design Principles.
  2. UNRWA UI/UX Standards.
  3. UNRWA UI/UX Design Guidelines.
  4. UNRWA .Net Framework Library User Manual

Conducting comprehensive sessions to staff on all the above, elaborating on how to use the framework (principles, standards, guidelines, and UI Library), and how to avoid implementing nonstandard UI/UX principles in UNRWA applications 


  1. A university degree from an accredited educational institution in computer science or related discipline;
  2. A minimum of 4 years of experience in front-end developer and a UI/UX designer;
  3. A portfolio that demonstrates both JavaScript proficiency and understanding of SOLID design principles (plugins, node packages, etc.);
  4. Expert knowledge of CSS, CSS extension languages (Less, Sass), and CSS preprocessor tools;
  5. Expert knowledge of HTML5 and its best practices;
  6. Proficiency in designing interfaces and building clickable prototypes using adobe XD, Sketch, InVision, Axure, etc;
  7. A history of deconstructing user behavior to create an improved experience for users, showcased in the form of blog posts, articles, screencasts, etc;
  8. Good command of spoken and written English.

  3. Team spirit and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. 


  • Experience or knowledge of SQL-Sever,, MVC, HTML, AJAX, JavaScript, JQuery, object-oriented analysis and design.


  1. The consultant will be based in Gaza
  2. Remuneration for this consultancy will be equivalent to grade 12; $1,259.40 monthly salary subject to years of experience.
