Director of Workforce Programs - FHI 360 - Washington, DC

Job Summary:

FHI 360’s National Institute for Work and Learning (NIWL) focuses on two key drivers—education and employment—to improve lives. NIWL is looking for a Director of Workforce Programs to lead current and develop future projects involving workforce development with a focus on youth development.  Specific areas include reentry employment programs, youth apprenticeships, the green economy, and preparing youth for other emerging industries.

The Director will plan, compete for, execute, and finalize projects according to strict deadlines and within budget. The Director supervises a team of 5 and will also acquire resources and coordinates their efforts with external clients to deliver projects according to contract plan. 

The principal function of this position is to expand and oversee, the workforce development projects including under the Department of Labor Re-entry Intermediary grant/s that manage 4-14 communities nationwide. The Director defines and manages the project’s objectives, oversees project execution and quality control throughout the completion of the project(s) life cycle. The Director creates work plans based on goals, targets, and implements evidence-based interventions in workforce areas.

Education:

Bachelor's Degree or its International Equivalent • Communication and Social Marketing, Business Administration, Economic Development, Education, the Environment, Gender, Youth or Related Fields.

Project Management (PM) Certification preferred.

Experience:

  1. Typically requires 10+ years of relevant experience with projects management principles and practices (including 5+ years of line management experience).
  2. Experience in non-profit organizations
  3. Experience with Department of Labor grants, WIOA or Workforce Investment Boards preferred
  4. Experience designing and implementing workforce development programs, supporting opportunity youth, populations in or out of school and/or impacted by the justice system
  5. Articulate detail oriented professional able to communicate in a clear, positive manner with clients and staff. 
  6. Demonstrated strategic planning, staff development and capacity building experience.
  7. Demonstrated experience in leading and implementing complex projects that are strategic in nature and national/international in scope.
  8. Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English, a second language preferred
